Cambridge Lower Secondary
Curriculum
By offering Cambridge Lower Secondary, We provide a broad and balanced education for our learners, helping them to thrive throughout their schooling, work and life. With over ten subjects to choose from, including English, mathematics and science, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to develop creativity, expression and wellbeing in a variety of ways.
The curriculum is flexible, so you can offer any combination of the subjects available and adapt the content to suit your context, culture and ethos.
Assessment
Accurately measuring a student’s potential and progress can transform learning and help you make informed decisions about individual learners, their educational needs and where to focus your teaching efforts.
At JBM, We use the Cambridge Lower Secondary testing structure to assess learner performance and report progress to students and parents. Our assessments are optional, so you can use them in any combination to suit your context, culture and ethos.
Cambridge Upper Secondary
Cambridge Upper Secondary is typically for learners aged 14 to 16 years. It offers learners two routes: Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge O Level. Cambridge Upper Secondary builds on the foundations of Cambridge Lower Secondary, although learners do not need to complete that stage before this one.
Curriculum
The Cambridge IGCSE curriculum offers a variety of routes for learners with a wide range of abilities, including those whose first language is not English.
Starting from a foundation of core subjects, it is easy to add breadth and cross-curricular perspectives. Encouraging learners to engage with a variety of subjects, and make connections between them, is fundamental to our approach. Cambridge IGCSE offers a flexible and stimulating curriculum, supported with excellent resources and training. Cambridge IGCSE helps improve performance by developing skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving. It is the perfect springboard to advanced study.
Assessment
Cambridge IGCSE was first examined in June 1988 (introduced for first teaching in September 1986). At the same time the GCSE was introduced in the UK.
Cambridge IGCSE assessment takes place at the end of the course and can include written, oral, coursework and practical assessment. This broadens opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning, particularly when their first language is not English. In many subjects there is a choice between core and extended curriculum, making Cambridge IGCSE suitable for a wide range of abilities.
Grades are benchmarked using eight internationally recognised grades, A* to G, which have clear guidelines to explain the standard of achievement for each grade.
